How to Check Your Tires
You rely on your tires for exciting road trips, everyday commutes, and quick trips around town. If it’s been a while since you’ve inspected your tires, here’s a quick checklist you can use to assess your tires on your own.
1. Check Tire Air Pressure
Use a tire pressure gauge to read your tire air pressure and see if it matches up with your vehicle recommendations (you can find this information on the inside of the driver’s door).
2. Test Your Tire Tread Depth
Tires wear down as you drive. The easiest way to determine wear on your own is to check your tread depth with the tried and true tire penny test.
3. Look For Wear Or Damage
Get a close look at your tires, see if you can spot or feel any punctures, tears, warping, or other signs of tire damage.
Watch for Signs of Vehicle Damage
Head to your nearest tire repair shop or call for assistance if you see these signs:
- Bulging tire sidewalls: Hitting a tree branch or something large can cause the sidewalls on your tires to bulge. If not addressed right away, costly tire repairs could be around the corner.
- Bent tire rims: Most new cars have aluminum rims. If struck by a large object in the road, they may be more susceptible to bending.
- Leaks under your car: If you drive over an obstruction in the road and see that fluid is leaking, be sure to bring your vehicle in for a complete inspection. We’ll take a look underneath and get to the root of the problem.
